Purpose of Our Church
Mt. Ivy Christian Church is an independent, "locally-governed" congregation of the Restoration Movement. The purpose of independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ such as Mt. Ivy is to restore the church to its original design as Christ intended. Our teachings and practices are drawn strictly from the New Testament, where Jesus presented His plan for the organization of His church and where He defined its teachings. We impose no requirement on prospective or present members that is not imposed by the New Testament.

History of Our Church
Mt. Ivy Christian Church was established in the Scruggs community of Franklin County, Virginia in 1895 and still meets in our original building. The church was originally a "union church" with Baptist and Methodist congregations who alternated use of the building with the Christian Church. The community and our church have enjoyed tremendous growth since those times, transitioning from a rural farming community to a busy vacation resort/suburban area.

What Our Worship Services are Like
Our services are not formal. While most of our hymns would be easily recognized by visitors, we also incorporate newer "praise choruses" in most of our services, and our choir performs a variety of music. The Lord's Supper is observed at each of our morning worship services every Sunday and is available for all Christians who wish to partake. We also offer "Wee-worship" at our 9:00 service and "Children's Church" for ages 3-9 during the 11:00 service.

How Should I Dress for a Service at Mt. Ivy?
Casual dress is welcome at both of Mt. Ivy's Sunday morning services. We realize that many of our visitors have come to the lake for a weekend or for a summer vacation and did not bring dress clothes with them. You are welcome to join us in blue jeans or casual wear!
